I'm surprised to learn how many of my adolescent indulgences weren't actively frying brain cells.
Short term memory has always been the thing that just punches me in the face. It was the source of a lot of anxiety for me before I ever tried any drugs.
It's excruciating sometimes when you fail to remember the small things that connect you with the previous half hour, and could help you get through the workday more easily.
Until somewhat recently, I've been more or less short-term memory deficient.
Sleep, and lots of it, seems to help.

EDIT: It's also worth considering that your memory wants certain things, and discards a lot more. It's a ruthlessly efficient housecleaner.

Send this stuff off to a publisher. How anybody can have such recall while claiming to be in such altered states is amazing to me. I can't even remember what I had for dinner last night.

We have a smaller pot-bellied pig who was located by Pig Pals rescue wandering around downtown Charlotte. She sticks pretty close to the house, vocalizing all day, especially when the sheep or dogs get into her slops. I've been building a deck on the side of the house near her pen and get to hear her talking to herself. For the most part she's a cheerful thing. Greedy, but cheerful.
I don't think she'll be missing the big pig much. On especially cold days, he'd wait for her to stuff her dogloo full of straw and leaves, and then he'd steal it.

Then she'd cry.
It almost sounded like she was saying "No fair!"
Or at least "Bastard!"

Ah, the groves of academe. Indistinct in the mist of time - except for the more harrowing moments.

Sorry about Pig. Hope his last moments were more peaceful than envisioned in your eulogy.
